‘The possibilities of what a performance can be and do are exploded in Nimi Collective’s STILL Falling From Zero. Although undoubtedly a standout choreography of gestures, unspeakable emotions, and aural cues that said far more than can be said with only movement or words…’
— Sarah-Mace Dennis for The Place London

Nimi is a collective of independent artists.

Miia Mäkilä, Katerina Sotiraki, Nikita De Martin and Valentina Lopez are four female artists with different backgrounds and training in dance, music, sociology and performance.Their focus is on questioning cultural norms around the body. Driven by their different backgrounds and various devising techniques, they strive to play with physicality.

Freshly established in the post-pandemic summer of 2021, Nimi Collective has had the chance to present their first concept Still, falling from 0 at the Cleave Festival in London as part of the MA Performance Making final show of Goldsmiths University of London. Still, falling from 0 was the first sketch drawn by the company's intention to work on society related issues, concerning capitalism and the application of its rules to artistic practices.

The strength of the group resides on the ability of spreading their knowledge into different research fields, technical and philosophical. Besides the ability to translate these in four different languages.

Aiming at exposing the creative space that goes beyond the boundaries of labeled practices (such as dance, music, painting, cooking) they stubbornly defend the idea of connecting more practices together in a playful and sometimes naive way.

Still, falling from 0

Sensible and progressively energetic, this piece unravels the enigma about the beginning and value of movement in society.

STILL falling from zero is a multidisciplinary performance in conversation between the moving bodies and the progressive sounds. Questioning the value of movement in today's society the performers find themselves at the junctions of continuous changes in space, mechanics, speed and interpretation. The fragments of sounds circulating in the space are manipulated live by the performers, constructing seemingly disorganised soundscapes from scratch. Actions trigger sounds and sounds trigger actions, finding points of encounter between chaos and control while a nonsensical world is slowly being built.
